Personal Development

At St Edward's, we believe learning is about more than reading, writing, and maths. It’s also about helping each child grow into a confident, kind and capable person.

We deliberately weave personal development into everything we do – lessons, playtimes, clubs, and special projects/ events – so children not only succeed academically but also grow into happy, well-rounded individuals. Our annual Personal Development Curriculum (attached below) ensures all children receive a rich programme of events.

Together with families, we aim to prepare pupils not just for the next stage of school, but for life.

Rooted in our Christian values of thankfulness, respect, perseverance, forgiveness, friendship and compassion, we help children develop personally as well as academically. Our approach to Personal Development focuses on:

🌱 1. Self-Development

  • Nurturing each child’s talents and interests

  • Building confidence, resilience, independence and strength of character

  • Encouraging an appreciation of the arts

  • Teaching about healthy relationships and positive interaction with others

  • Promoting healthy eating, physical activity and mental wellbeing

  • Supporting children’s spiritual and moral growth

🏡 2. Living and Belonging Within Society

  • Understanding democracy and the rule of law

  • Learning to be responsible, respectful and active citizens who make a positive contribution

  • Discussing and debating issues in a thoughtful, balanced way

  • Communicating to and working with others confidently and effectively

  • Developing a sense of belonging and togetherness

🤝 3. Respect for Others

  • Understanding individual liberty and mutual respect

  • Learning to appreciate and respect differences across cultures, religions, ethnicities and socioeconomic groups

  • Showing respect for protected characteristics and challenging discrimination

  • Having opportunities to engage with different views and beliefs in a considered way

By weaving Christian values through these areas, we aim to prepare our pupils not just for the next stage of school but for life beyond the classroom.
